Male Underwear Model Workout Routine

Different trainers will try to tell you their workout routine is the one-and-only best way for you obtain the body of a male underwear model. The truth is all workout routines work....for different types of guys. You cannot know what works for you without getting started on a routine.

(It is good that there are different theories promoted by various personal trainers - because you can benefit by switching your workout from time-to-time, instead of always following the same workout routine for months after months.)

Most trainers will agree that achieving a male underwear model's physique is a simple concept. You need a ripped, muscular body. To get your muscles ripped, you need extremely low levels of body fat, and to lose body fat, you need to eat less food over time... simple, right? But if it were that simple, you wouldn't be reading this article right now - and every guy would be walking around the beach looking like an underwear model.

Developing a body for underwear modeling requires hard work in the gym, discipline, and following the right weight training techniques consistently. Without a road-map, you can get nowhere and waste months of time. However, there is lots of wisdom to learn from successful models. A short article (like this one) is not going to be detailed enough of a "roadmap" to looking good "almost naked" (as a male underwear model). You need to order our recommended book and dedicate some time to your body transformation.

This article addresses your specific question of how to design a male underwear model workout routine, but also suggests some underlying ideas you may have never thought of - and ways to stay motivated over the long haul. Understanding the science and theory underlying certain training regimens you are being asked to follow - can keep you motivated in the gym and keep you out of fast-food restaurants.

Its important to know why a trainer are diligent in correcting your form when working together in the gym. Its also important to know that this will be a long-term time commitment over many months. Appearing in impressive underwear model photos is worth that commitment. So, hang in there.

Let's cover a small way you can keep yourself motivated over time...

Your Body is a Machine, Get Inspired By That Machine

Before you begin your journey, we think it is very smart to invest in either a book or poster that helps you memorize the names and locations of muscles. An anatomy book or poster helps you remember the names and purposes of each muscle group and combine this knowledge with your exercises.

But, its not just about memorizing muscle names. These tools can give you a daily dose of inspiration. Its also good to start seeing yourself and your body as a machine who is the sum of its parts. When you realize the function and conditioning needed for each muscle group, you will also learn the need to use proper form - to not cheat when performing exercises.

Order "Strength Training Anatomy" or a Fitnus poster from Amazon. Some guys prefer to be reminded of muscle group names each time they walk into their bedroom or dorm room by hanging a Fitnus poster on their wall. (Books are great, but they have a tendency to stay closed and hidden away on a shelf.)

We highly recommend ordering the Fitnus Male Exercise/Muscle Guide $21.99. This laminated poster shows more than the names of the muscle groups. It also lists the most popular exercises for each muscle group.

There is another bonus to having this poster on your wall. The poster sends a message: Girls will see it and take an interest in your transformation. If girls walk into your apartment or dorm, they will definitely ask about this poster! Once girls ask about your poster is a great chance to get to take your shirt off to show them your physique!

If you don't want to project the kind of image of being a badass by having a Fitnus poster on your wall, you can order "Strength Training Anatomy" $14.93. Packed with detailed illustrations about your muscles, this book does not bog you down with a lot of long lengthy text. Once again, this book shows you exactly how you should be moving muscles properly to "have good form."

Next Step: Take a "Before" Photo and Measure Your Body

Before you begin your routine, take a well-lit "before" photo of yourself in underwear. Avoid heavy shadows. This shall serve a purpose of comparing your muscle groups later. Also record the measurements of your: thighs, chest and waist. Keep these measurements on hand, because you will take the same measurements later.

Body Parts (Muscle Groups) Crucial for Male Underwear Models

Some underwear brands choose to take photos that are no different than a normal model photo because they show the model's face. Just a regular, model standing there and posing. Other brands concentrate on your faceless body to emphasize their product. Their photos show a faceless male from below the pectorals to above knees. With both of these photo styles, there are important body parts you must concentrate on - because of the type of modeling you have chosen.

An underwear model workout is slightly different than other workout because of underwear photography's concentration on body parts - abs, obliques, thighs, buttocks.

Be certain to pay attention to training procedures that concentrate on these body parts. Here are some things to watch for...

An Underwear Model's Chest

The pectorals need to be developed enough to show visible muscle striations after you get lean from your cutting diet. Unfortunately, this is often the first muscle group to lose size with dieting, so extra attention needs to be paid to your chest training program.

Our recommended book will tell you to start with a heavy compound movement - such as the bench press or incline press and be sure to train to failure. Also remember there are no "middle pecs", to train the upper chest with some sort of incline press exercise and use bench presses and dips for overall chest development. Decline barbell presses are also a good chest exercise. Finish with an isolation exercise such as incline dumbbell flies to finish off the upper pecs and get a good stretch.

An Underwear Model's Back

For reverse poses (poses that show your buttocks and the rear of the underwear style), we all know that developing gluteals is important for a underwear model. But, don't forget the need to also develop your back for rear shots. There are two aspects to good back development... width and thickness. Both are needed to have a muscular back that compliments your buttocks.

An Underwear Model's Shoulders

The deltoids contain individual parts called "heads" that must be worked separately. Our recommended book will tell you that working the anterior head will create the look of separation in your deltoids and pecs, making your shoulders appear larger .  Just remember the anterior deltoids are worked very hard with bench presses- so you may or may not need a specific anterior deltoid exercise in your training program. Side deltoids and rear deltoids need to be balanced with the front deltoids, so be thorough to do lots exercises for the rear deltoids. A perfectly balanced deltoid makes you shoulders to appear very rounded and perfect for the camera.

Big Triceps Are Important for Male Underwear Models, Too

Most lifters who want larger arms know that developing the biceps is important. If you your arms to appear large in photos, build your triceps muscles, too. Ripped triceps look especially impressive when the medial, lateral, and long heads are developed to their fullest, giving the arms that super-ripped "horseshoe" shape - which adds a subtle note of muscularity in photos.

Next, let's cover the basics. It's important to avoid only concentrating on fat loss...

The Basics of a male Underwear Model Workout Routine:

Most books and trainers recommend you get develop an underwear model body in 2 phases:

  • The first stage is a muscle building phase
  • Stage two is a fat loss and dieting phase

Muscle building/ mass gain phase

Make no mistake, this key to having a male underwear modeling body is to have lower body fat.  But its not just about being skinny. To have a ripped and muscular physique, you will need to increase your body's muscle mass. (The percentage of muscle on your frame - or the thickness of your muscles.) Fat loss by itself just makes you skinny, which is not enough to look marketable in underwear photos... well developed muscles give a roundness and "lines" for the camera to record. Low-fat skin over flat, small muscle is uninspiring. Photographers cannot do much with skinny guys.

The only problem with all of this is that to increase muscle mass you will need to eat extra calories. This means it is normal to also gain a little fat. Don't worry, second phase will help:

Cutting Fat Phase

This is where you go from "huge" to being truly looking like an "underwear model." When you're burning more calories than you're taking into your body each day, you will lose some muscle mass along with fat. The trick is to burn off as much fat as possible while keeping all of the raw muscle as possible.

How do you do this process? Different trainers advocate different methods. To get their personal training clients ripped, professional fitness trainers make the following decisions:

  • Bulking up vs lean mass gain.
  • High carb diets vs. high fat/low carb diets
  • High volume weight training vs. high intensity weight training.
  • Free weights vs. machines.

Since we have covered all the important concepts and you know the importance of why male underwear models prepare their bodies in particular ways, let's get to the workout.

Recommended Book to Develop a Male Underwear Model's Body

We recommend you order (from Amazon) and follow diligently: Built for Show: Four Body-Changing Workouts for Building Muscle, Losing Fat, and Looking Good Enough to Hook Up $7.98, Its a 256-page paperback. The appeal to a book like this is that it was written by a bachelor, for bachelors seeking to look good naked. There's a lot less exact science than usual, and a lot more practical instruction.
